Spend the day exploring the best of Tangier from the inside and the outside. Drive through the Ville Nouvelle (New Town) with its wide avenues that were initially built by the international powers that ruled the city from the 20th to the 50th in the last century. You will learn how Tangier attracted ex-pats from all over the world including artists, writers, spies, politicians, businesspeople, and many others.

You will drive uphill through the richest area of Tangier with its beautiful mansions and villas including the Governor’s house and the Royal Residence. Enjoy a drink at the Cape Spartel which forms the meeting point of both the Mediterranean and the Atlantic Seas; the view from here is stunning and the lighthouse that was built in the 18th century is still traditionally in function to this day.

Your driver will continue on the track along the Atlantic Coastline before being invited to experience the camel ride by the sandy beach, then visit the Hercules Caves that go back to the Neolithic Times.

The walking tour will begin at the Kasbah with its bird’s eye view of the Medina (Old Town), Gibraltar, Spain, and the Atlantic Ocean. Wander through the tranquil alleys where most buildings have been transformed into residences and boutique hotels. Visit the Kasbah Museum which was originally a palace of the Sultan in the 17th century.

This interesting museum displays a great selection of antiques, crafts, and relics that witness the rich history of the north of Morocco. Meander around the vibrant Medina with its Souks (Markets) that are divided into sections based on the specialty including vegetables, fish, spices, clothes, crafts, and much more.

For the purpose of coming to terms with the local lifestyle, your guide will invite you to sip a refreshing mint tea in a local café while watching the passers-by. You will be subsequently escorted and assisted with your luggage to your accommodation in the Kasbah or Medina.

  • Overnight accommodation in Riad Latangerina or similar – Bed & breakfast option.

DAY 2: TANGIER – ASILAH – VOLUBILIS – MEKNES – FES

After having breakfast in your Riad/Hotel, you will set for your journey along the Atlantic Coastline to Asilah, which is known for its charm, tranquility, and serenity. It panoramically overlooks the Atlantic Ocean with the intact ramparts that reveal its rich history.

You will stretch your legs by the exquisite whitewashed walls displaying a lot of interesting paintings because the city is known for the International Arts & Cultural Festival when artists from all over the world are invited to stamp their skills on the walls of the charming little gem of a town. Continue on the track through the fertile lowland plain of El-Gharb that has been providing the Moroccan and international markets with a variety of products.

Your tour will introduce you to the Roman Ruins of Volubilis to the extent that one can be astonished by the surrounding countryside with its green hills and endless fields of olive trees that one may think, as though, you are in Italy rather than Morocco.

Your local tour guide will unveil the mystery behind the foundation of this archaeological site that bears witness to several civilizations lasting for more than ten centuries including the Triumphal Arch, which is standing at the end of Decumanus Maximus, the House of Dionysus, and the House of Orpheus.

You will continue on the track further south to Meknes, which is one of the four Imperial Cities of Morocco and a city of historical significance. It was initially founded by the Almoravid Amazigh “Meknasa Tribe” but the glory and golden age it reached was during the reign of the Alaouite Sultan Moulay Ismail, the third Sultan of the Alaouite Dynasty, in the 17th century.

Your cultural tour of this magical city will include the Bab Al-Mansour (Gate of the Victorious) that is one of the most exquisite gates in Morocco before stretching your legs at the Hedim Square, which was initially established by Moulay Ismail for the exposition of his army but has been transformed into a hub of cultural activities including snake charmers, storytellers, fortune tellers…etc.

It is recommended to visit the adjacent olive market as Meknes is the capital of olives and where you will learn about the different varieties of olives that exist in Morocco.

In Meknes, you can’t miss the chance to visit the Moulay Ismail Mausoleum, which is a nice building depicting real Moroccan architecture (Non-Muslims are not permitted to get into the room where the man is buried).

You will drive through the high walls of the Royal Palace and make a visit to the Sahrij Souani, which is a lagoon surrounded by an ancient granary used for storing grains, and stables used for the 12.000 royal horses. In the late afternoon, we drive using the highway to Fes which is our final destination for the day.

  • Overnight accommodation in Riad Yacout or similar. Bed & breakfast option.

DAY 3: HALF DAY EXPLORING FES – CHEFCHAOUEN

After having breakfast in your Riad, you will explore what Fes or Fez has to offer with a professional personal tour guide who grew up within the very narrow lanes of this Medieval City. Fes is the oldest imperial Moroccan city and was founded in 789 and one of the largest car-free urban areas in the world.

Fes or Fez was recognized as a world heritage site by UNESCO, the Medina of Fez keeps alluring visitors with the almost untouched 1300 years of real Moroccan heritage. Fes is titled “The spiritual Capital of Morocco” and no wonder the number of Shrines and Marabouts that are scattered within the very heart of its alleyways turning it into a major destination for Muslims in the world, “Mecca of Africa” and “Athens of the West”.

Your guide will unveil the mystery in which this city has been always shrouded through sharing the tales and stories he acquired throughout his life through visiting numerous historical monuments such Bou Inania Medersa, Tijani Zaouia (sanctuary of religious brotherhood), Kissarias (covered markets), Shrine of Moulay Idriss II (founder of the town), the tanneries where you will learn the traditional process of tanning. Visit the Mellah (Former Jewish Quarter), Royal Palace bronzed gates before, and after lunch, continuing on the track further north to Chefchaouen crossing the spectacular Rif Mountains.

  • Overnight accommodation in Dar Echchaouen or similar including bed and breakfast.

DAY 4: HALF-DAY TOUR EXPLORING CHEFCHAOUEN – TANGIER

After breakfast in your Riad/Hotel, you will spend the first half-day exploring this immensely beautiful town, which is nestled at the feet of the two mountains with the shape of goat’s horns after which Chefchaouen is named in the Tamazight language “Chaouen” means “Horns”.

The dominant aspect that has captivated the eyes, as well as the souls of visitors, is the blue color with which the whole town is painted. It was founded in the 15th century as a small fortress (Kasbah) to fight against the Portuguese invasion and then resided by the refugees who were expelled from Andalusia after the Reconquista. The blue was initially used by the Jewish people and then was adopted by everyone to the extent that no one is permitted, by law, to paint their building differently.

Meander around the intricate streets with their beautiful shutters and windows before reaching the natural spring of “Ras El-Ma) where you will see women washing clothes and carpets, and boys playing soccer on the nearby field. Chefchaouen is a live museum of art where the eye can never get bored; as a result, you may easily give up on getting lost in an exploration that nourishes the soul.

You may want to opt for doing some shopping (small items for souvenirs) as prices are reasonable and the vendors are free of hassle. Enjoy your lunch in one of the local restaurants overlooking the Kasbah and the famous Uta El-Hammam Square while watching the passers-by before being transferred back to Tangier via the Rif Mountains.
